Caterpillars fully dissolve and liquify their body within their chrysalis and then reorganize their cells to
form an entirely new body before emerging as a butterfly (eclosion). Horses were a primary mode of
transportation for hundreds of years, until cars showed up on the scene. People still ride horses, but
much less prominently than before. Telegrams using Morse Code were the primary means of
telecommunication for about 50 years, until telephones showed up on the scene, and then internet,
cellphones, and smartphones. Morse code and telegraphy is still in use, but again much less
prominent than it once was. Similarly many existing systems and ways of doing things are changing
rapidly. These changes are accelerating as the adoption of new systems increases beyond inflection
points and enters transition zones of societal transformation. For the purposes of this book let us note
two such transitions, the transition from paper fiat to digital currency, and the transition from internal
combustion engine vehicles to battery electric vehicles.
